To research for a good project topic is not an easy task for any student. Your instructor or supervisor (as the case may be) might ask you to go and find a project topic that is of interest to you. You may then ask yourself, how do I start? from where do I start?

Don’t get confused and don’t panic. Remember that the topic you choose will determine the outcome of your project. You might even change your topic a few time as you progress through your research, so don’t panic when you meet a dead end at the early stages of your research project.

In this research article, you will find some clues on how to find the perfect project research topic.

1.    Brainstorm for research topic ideas
This is the first step in searching for research topic. Crack your brain for ideas. You may even ask some of your friends for some ideas on how to go about getting a good research topic, or you can go to your departmental archive to get some clues, then, you can from there develop your own topic while improving on previous works. You can also have access and download some current online journals (from Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, etc.)  to give you better ideas on information already existing on research paper to get ideas on some research topics. Also, you can even get some ideas while you were on your industrial training. The important thing is just keep your mind open for ideas on a good research topic.

2.    Choose a topic that is interesting to you
This is the next step. While choosing a topic, make sure you know what the topic all about. Try to find some research gap that you which to address in your research paper. A topic that holds interest to you will make your research process more fun and engaging.

3.    Do a background research on the topic
A good background research on a topic enables you to get an overview of the topic. It helps you to develop and improve on your topic where necessary. Knowing more about your topic's background can only help you develop a more effective topic, and therefore, research paper.

4.    Develop your thesis
The topic development process will help you to develop your thesis, which is your proposed answer to your research questions. Make the topic narrow enough that you can cover it in the assigned number of pages and time frame, and broad enough that it contains all the relevant information needed for the research.
