Amazon decides to publicize third-party names and addresses on their web page so that customers will know the people they are buying from.  This is not done due to transparency but rather to deter people away from fake sellers and to track down these fake sellers.

This new policy of publishing  publishing the names and addresses of all third-party sellers on Amazon website is a welcome development which will help both customers and brands track down suspected third-party fake goods sellers.

The business insider has reported that the sellers on Amazon market place has already as of last week been notified of this new amazon decision, that their names and addresses will be made public starting from September 1st.

The notice of Amazon to the sellers says that “We are making this change to ensure there is a consistent baseline of seller information to help customers make informed shopping decisions.”

This means that there will be no more unknown sellers on the amazon platform. People will now know the location their goods are coming from and the person selling the goods to them.

In spite of all the money amazon has already spent in combating these counterfeiters in the previous years (more than $500 million), it still continues to remain a big challenge for the company.

And just last month, amazon announced that it has created a new "Counterfeit Crimes Unit" which will help them to fight counterfeiters on the platform. The team according to them is made up of former federal prosecutors, experienced investigators and data analysts.

Very soon amazon customers will begin to see and know where their goods are coming from on amazon platform.

And now, “Brands that are trying to enforce approved retailers, chasing counterfeits, will see a legal entity to go after,” says Juozas Kaziukenas, who runs Marketplace Pulse.
